Bellatrix couldn't help but smile as she walked into the garden, holding a ball of fire in each hand. It was sort of ironic, actually, how mothers told their kids never to play with fire and Bella did it all the time. But it wasn't like she could be hurt by the fire because of her fire elemental. Still, she didn't think her own mom would be too happy about it.
Ah, Mommy dearest, Bella thought sarcastically, cringing a bit at the thought of her pathetic mother, unable to even stand up to her own husband. In Bella's mind, her mother was a fool. She still hadn't even picked a side in the coming war. Bella knew her father would want the family to be on the Death Eater side, and had pretty much forced Bella that way. But Pansy was drifting in between sides, supporting Draco one moment and loving Weasley's the next.
Pushing away thoughts of her mother for the moment, Bella's mind focused on the Death Eater mask conveniently located in a drawer in her dormitory. Of course, she had placed spells around it, so you could only get it if you knew some pretty tough counter-curses, but it still seemed dangerous to leave there. Yet, Bella had no where else to put it, so in the drawer it stayed.
The fire in Bella's hands grew larger at the thought of the mask and she focused on it once more, making shapes out of the flames and tossing them into the air. She loved controlling fire, it was much better than any other sort of magic. Bella's smile came back once more and she began to juggle three balls of fire. Round and round, fasted and faster. This was the happiest she'd been in days. Then footsteps, just behind her. The fires went out just as Bella whipped around to see...

"Pretty impressive, Bella," Safira commented as she walked into the garden, seeing her sister playing with fire. It was sort of ironic how she was an Ice/Water Elemental, while her younger sister controlled fire. Then again, they were pretty opposite as well. "You didn't have to stop because of me," Safira added. "It looked like you were enjoying yourself."

"For the first time in days," Bella muttered, more to herself than to her older sister, Safira. Since Safira didn't mind, Bella lit a fire in her right hand, forming it into various shapes. "So what's new with you, Safira?" she asked. Safira probably had nothing more important to worry about than her OWL tests, something Bella secretly envied. She would give almost anything not to be the one who had broken under her father's pressure.

"Studying for Ordinary Wizard Levels, doing the homework associated with them, et cetera," said Safira, waving her hand in front of her Safira often used her hands as she spoke, it was just a habit of hers. "What have you been up to? I feel like I haven't spoken with you in a while." said Safira. True, they rarely saw each other because of the house difference, but still...

"Yeah, we haven't seen each other in ages," Bella agreed with a sad smile. If only Safira knew the truth...but she didn't and Bella was going to keep it that way. "I've just been doing schoolwork too; the teachers like to pile on homework this time of year, I suppose." It was true, Bella had seen an increase in homework lately and was having a hard time finishing it all.

"Well, there are exams," Safira said pointedly, leaning against a tree. Spring was coming. The weather was still bad, but it was getting a little warmer outside. But it was England after all, it rained all the time. Safira would much rather live someplace warmer and sunnier. "Just be thankful you're not taking OWLs," Safira added with a groan.

Bella found herself hating her sister's tone as she pointed out that exams weren't too far away. As if she needed another reminder. It was bad enough with all the teachers constantly telling her that she was behind, as though she didn't already know that she was practically failing half of her classes. "Well third year's no picnic either," Bella replied before she could stop herself. She supposed she should have sympathized with Safira, but that wasn't really Bella's way.

Safira felt taken aback when Bella had snapped at her. She supposed that her younger sister had always been a bit temperamental, but to be that defensive? "Well, then," Safira said a bit huffily. "I'll just leave you to play with your fire." She turned on her heel and made to leave the gardens.

"Safira!" Bella yelled after her sister as she turned huffily away. What was up with her? First annoyingly reminding Bella of the exams and now walking out when she didn't sympathize with her. Did Safira really expect Bella to act merely polite to her own sister? Everyone always told her to be herself around friends and family, but apparently it didn't work that way.

Safira ran a hand through her hair as she walked away, biting down on her lip gently. Perhaps it was stress, PMS, a combination, or something else entirely. She had been edgy for a while now. When she was half way back to the castle, she debated turning back to try to talk to Bella again, but decided against it and continued on.

Bella didn't understand her sister at all, she felt like they were from entirely different planets. Bella supposed that was why Safira was in Gryffindor and she was in Slytherin, but it had never felt this distinct before. Bella threw a ball of fire to the ground in frustration. Nothing was going right.
